Terrain analysis is a fundamental preliminary step for the majority of hydrologic and geomorphic applications. As a result, a growing number of commercial and experimental GIS-based software have been developed in recent times. In this context, this course is designed to teach participants about theoretical and practical aspects of state-of-the-art terrain analysis tools. The following syllabus describes the activities and topics that will be developed during the week. The course is arranged with four morning lectures, focusing on theory and background, and four afternoon labs. Students will be taught how to use available commercial software and the new experimental tools. Throughout the course, students will use their new skills to develop a ‘hands-on’ terrain analysis project to be conducted in small teams.
